When looking for a Coach MMR doesn't mean that much. Just because a person has high MMR then that doesn't mean the person is good at conveying knowledge. I've seen countless 7k+ coaches who simply failed at teaching a person efficiently because they just don't know wtf they're doing.
Telling a low MMR player advanced mechanics or other advanced things usually fails because they lack a basis to understand the advanced logic and hence apply it wrong.
Purge is one of the best coaches in the Dota scene and he's still only like high 5ks. It only shows that when it comes to analytical skill some people aren't as good at others, despite having more MMR.
So when looking for a coach follow these steps:
- Make sure he's at least 5k mmr
- Look for content (youtube, twitch etc.)
- Look at reviews
- Make sure he isn't a fake (Boosted or abused by sandbox).
