SSD as a main hard drive? in General Discussion
Story Time

My laptop allows only one device for internal drive. And since i have problems with my normal 1T HD, i am thinking of getting a 250 gb SSD. Is ssd reliable and will last 2-3 years? Which brand is better?

    Thanks in advance!

you dont really need a ssd for dota but Samsung and Kingston are one of most reliable ones out there

if your laptop sup M2 u can use that
or u can use ODD space for ssd with a bracket

SSD all the way! just choose from a good brand, read reviews before buying, it's going to last you decades.

the better question is, why would you NOT us a SSD drive for your system

Cost. Anything over 250gb is still pretty expensive.

They theoretically don’t last as long as physical drives but both last longer than their useful tech life anyway. They are just as reliable as physical drives at this point. Everyone should be backing up important files anyway either to a cloud or second storage medium like an external drive. Programs like steam games can just be reloaded.

IMO, if you're building a new system, SSD is mandatory in 2k17.

SSD will change your life TBH. The loading times!

I agree the Samsung ones are good but not so certain about Kingston. Gotta watch if getting from Amazon as they can be a little hit or miss (like their SD cards).

Personally, I would opt for a Crucial drive (looks like a random make but been in the PC industry from the dawn of time). From personal experience, my Crucial M240 will be running for 4 years in January with no problems (unlike my 1TB WD HDD)

it's not only about loading times, there are some games where it stutters if you're playing it on a HDD when you turn your settings way up.
