General Discussioni don't use QWER

I think they're great because it let's folks say "hit q" or "use your r" without having to remember the exact name of each skill, especially when things can sound so similar.

when someone says, 'hit your q, hit your q' i get so pissed because i dont use those keys

I used "werd" and "fg" its much faster because it shifts to faster fingers. Also having the ult on a separate row makes you think a bit more about casting it.

Anyone who tells you to "use your q" just proves they don't know what the skill is.

I use WERT DF because I can't use "A" very efficiently with standard qwer setup. Also on Q I have second item key, which is a bit more handy then Mouse 4 and Mouse 5.

personally, erdfcv for spells,(i change hotkeys depending on hero. mixture of legacy without bgt) xc{SPACE BAR}234 for items, mouse3 - shop, mouse4 - hold(cancel spells), s - stop, a - attack ( i don't right click, i ALWAYS press A then my target.) and Z to move (usefull while invisible). Oh and 1 and 5 for my control groups

This setup gives me excellent control for heroes like visage that require a good macroing skills
The only problem i have is that i have only 1 control group in my key setup

What is the best setup for Beastmaster and Brewmaster?

I get only Beastmasters boar when I use my "select other units" hotkey. I would like hotkeys that automatically were assigned to hawk, boar, and both. Can that be set up?

I used to get Brewmasters Earth brewling first when I used the "select other units" hotkey but since a few patchs ago I randomly get one of the 3 and have to try to find the right one before I can stun. How should I set this up?

For Brewmaster Select them all, use your setup's control group tab to get to the right one, use the ability you like.
For beastmaster, Assign Hawk and boar each a different control group and a control group with beastmaster and boar together for when you are chasing an enemy

Do I have to do that manually? What I know how to do is use ctrl + "hotkey" to assign one, but every time I summon or convert or split or use necro etc they all need to be re assigned.

The only thing that stays automatically is my "select other units" hotkey that I set in the control panel outside the game. Usually that grabs everything not my hero, but it doesn't take beastmaster hawk for some reason.

Is there a way to preset the control groups outside the game? I must be doing it wrong.

Personally, I control group my hero only with 1. You should be using Cltr + right click to move all your units at once. I do that and tab to cycle through units. With meep i do 1 + tab + tab to select the third meepo. 1 + tab +tab + tab for the forth one and so on. with beatmaster it's 1 + tab + tab for the boar and 1 + tab for hawk. it's seems like a lot to remember but this was my work around and it has turned out to work very well for micro

About such heroes, when u use the boar+hawk or primal split, just hold ctrl+(the control group modifier in ur option)
I got the f2,f3,f4,f5,f6,f7,f8,f9,f10,f11,f12, I don't use most of them, I use f2-f5 for meepo, f2-f4 for chen, and for Visage, I don't rly use any such micro, "x" for all units = familiars

I use the same QWER(DF) combination for skills, IMO it's the best.
For items I have TYGHBN(was TYGHBN because of dota's backpack, then changed it to TYUGHJ for dota 2 because of a different backpack layout, but since U and J are hard to reach I'm changing back to TYGHBN)
Now since I use H for my items I have to change my hold position so I changed it to Z and I got used to it pretty fast, easy to use.
Control groups are regular (ctrl+number above keyboard) and I use TAB to change between the selected control groups.
Control hero is F1, courier is F2, shop is F3, scoreboard is F4 and purchase quick buy is F5.(What is purchase sticky?)
Learn skill is O (not zero) (I plan on changing that as it's a bit too far and sometimes I can't press it in time if I'm nervous).
Glyph is P (I often use it when I try to use my learn skill hotkey so that needs to be figured out).

Ty for the help with hotkeys. Micro heroes are much easier for me to use now, fixed the problems with brew and beast.

I have used legacy keys for 6 years and recently switched to QWER. It is much easier to use, but you should get used to it first.

Don't be hipster, try QWER for a couple of week. If you find it harder, switch back to old keys.

Using QWER as only played Dota 2 . Feeling comfortable.

I wonder what setup pros use.. qwer? or some weird awesome set customised for themselves

The handful of pros I know about all have hotkeys on the mouse.

I used W E R T and D F so that i can use my little finger on Z as item and spacebar for most important item. Another items key are Y and G for skill-like item. In addition i changed attack button to S too and many thing differently.
