Panning with the mouse is pretty much the only normal way to play, though a buddy of mine plays with a trackpad lol.
Use minimap to get somewhere instantly.

Are you using keys or mouse to move the camera?
Personally, i prefer using keys ( WASD).
It seems easier to me.
