I'm thinking of mid windrunner

I am NOT a windrunner player myself. So i might be a bit off with some infos. So far when looking at 5,5k+ WR players, they tend to get maelstorm, then blink. Sometimes orchid depending on enemy lineup.
Depending on how the game they go for sheep, aghs, mkb, bkb, rarely also skadi. I don't think you need to much info on items since you do seem to get that down somewhat.
What WR Players have to do is winning mid lane. You basicially play like a TA, you farm and try to take the tower as fast as possible. You want to play agressive from the very beginning, since you are imune to rightclicks if you use windrun, so don't be afraid and tower dive em like as if you are playing TA because you are imune to the tower damage for your windrun period of time. Try to spam shakle as well if you think you can land it. You have to try all the time. You have very high starting health and damage, so don't be afraid to use that advantage. It is extremely important that you win the lane and force the enemy mid to either stay and get rekt or force him to rotate so you can take tower. Ofc course you can gank before that if you get a rune that you need.
After that you want to join your team, get some communication going, start 5manning towers. Keep that pacing going, get your items, ~ 20-35 min rax + throne. GG ez Katka.
She is not a lategame carry, hence i wouldn't want to go midas on her. She doesn't benefit it as well as Alchemist would for instance.
Well she might not be lategame, but windrun+bkb and ult with a crit is pretty fucking late game in some situations. But yeah overall I agree

people don't get midas exclusively for carries... AND she's very strong late game
Not really compared to real late game heroes she is not that good at all.
Catching lategame AM is highly unlikely since at that point AM would group up with his team. I know WR can dish out decent damage and disable to some extent but it is very shitty in the lategame. All her shit gets cancceled by BKB and her damage output is decent but not insane. She is a mid game hero, that's when she is very strong, not late.
Alchemist isn't a late game carry either, but he does benefit from midas. You are right that midas is not only good on late game carries but i do think that she is not a midas hero, she doesn't benefit from midas exp as much as Sylla does for instance. It is a delay of very important positioning items which she really needs, since she is the strongest in the early and mid game.

I go Phase or power treads (don't care about it, both are good), mjollnir, blink and SOV.

playing windrunner wrong, no wonder it feels like that it could have been a win with any other mid hero. This is because you're playing her just like that.

It's a fun hero I enjoy playing, the only problem is that the games where I won as WR could've been won with any other hero (that's how it feels like).
