How much speed do I need? in General Discussion
DAWN!

Moved in to a new location.

I share this new place with 2 other people. So I need to get a shared connection. :/
This 2 people are my siblings, they only do online surfing and stream music and videos. They don't do torrents.
So, How much internet speed do I need in order to play Dota 2 smoothly and probably play Spotify or some YouTube playlist ? Assuming my sibling are also using the internet at the same time. I only need to know the exact speed I need.

Anyone already in this situation? Mind helping me?

Ps: I live in a 3rd world country.

Lives in a third world country and wants to stream music while playing DotA. Nice.

      .GENGHIS.

4mb connection would be enough for all of you.

        SirSwirll

you can live with 1mb it still works without lag

          DAWN!

            @Kylo kills his father Han...

            Lol, seriously?

I live in 3rd world country too and it will be best if you use the 10Mbps one, no lag at all even if all of your siblings streaming or buffering videos and you playing youtube playlist. If you can't afford one then go for 5Mbps one, but you can't play youtube playlist and your ping will increase for a little time if your siblings buffering videos.

              Note: I'm using 5Mbps.

"you can live with 1mb it still works without lag"

This will only work if they don't stream youtube/load videos etc. They can browse/use Spotify (spotify doesn't take much bandwidth at all), and you'll still be able to play.

I am on a 3.5Mbps one and I still can't play with no lag with other people buffering videos so you might have to go for one >5Mbps.

                  play for fan

Lmao you only need 50kb/s for dota 2 and 50 more for spotify 100kb/s is enough

                    Untiltable

I would never play a youtube playlist while playing dota if you dont have fast speed. Since its video it can really fuck up your ms.
I have 3mbps or some shit and when noone is doing anything extremely heavy like watching a video or downloading something its fine. But when someone watches a youtube video or something on hd its fucks my ping up completely

Well, my sibling doesn't really use youtube often. However, my other sibling does.

My siblings could do something extremely heavy anytime I'm in a game.

Bits, it's used for download speeds.

@Links Bytes are used for download speeds where I'm from. all measurements in america are shit! that's why they aren't used in the science commnunity

                                Farming Simulator

I once played DotA 2 with a 384kbits connection, you actually have no delay or lags if its the only thing running.
On the other hand, streaming services like youtube use up a lot of bandwidth

                                  #12

I have got 1.2MB/S and can play dota lag free if some one is watching a movie in the other room. That said the providers in Merica got pretty reliable in the last few years, so 1.2MB/S really is 1.2MB/s and wont drop down to 200KB/s randomly.

                                    HaylingZar

I have 20MB/s and I get no lag, even with Dota, YouTube and Skype running at the same time, and with 4 other people using Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Sky Movies etc.
