Single elimination for some reason. Yet there is still a group stage. Overall, not a very good idea to do that. Maybe the games will be more interesting because there will always be more at stake.
check out the results of the na open qualifiers
not only the winners, but all the top teams there are european
Is it weird that a team like OG which turned over 3/5ths of the roster got a direct invite but a team like fanatic didn't even with a 4th place finish at TI? Fanatic had turnover too of course
What is the logic of inviting an essentially new team with new players but old name? (Og) I mean look at liquid. So many top players but we all know that don't instantly make a good team. And I still don't understand the logic of roster shuffles. Why do teams do it so much when u know it takes a lot of effort to play well in a new team.
Take for example our sea tard stack. On paper we look really legit but we've lost 2 ranked games already.
1. Money. Chinese teams have strict contracts usually, other regions vary, but if some organization is offering you a big signing bonus plus a monthly salary it's hard to say no to guaranteed money vs potential tournament earnings.
2. Immaturity. These guys are mostly 17-24 year olds. A year when you are 18 or 19 is a LOOONG time. Playing with the same people for a year probably gets pretty old.
3. Egos. Very easy to blame teammates in losses and think with someone else you'd be better.

I didn't watch any qualifiers but the results are interesting to say the least. Only half the teams from TI6 made it back to this major, including the 4th, 7th and 8th finishers from TI6.
Do you think this is a good or bad thing? It's kind of exciting to see new teams sometimes but hard when you don't know all of the players to root for them at times.
Was anyone surprised by some of the qualifiers like EU? This region probably had the most shuffle. Team secret, na'vi, alliance and liquid all failed to qualify, but the region seems really stacked and almost unfair. I'm pretty sure secret or liquid could've made it out of americas, both seem a few notches ahead of complexity gaming.
Which teams are you excited to watch? I'm bummed there's no miracle this year but I'll still be excited to see the revamped EG and to see if EE continues mad throws on his new team or if they actually do something.
