3ks only go at the most obvious times, it'll be one of these three times:
-Right after they win a big team fight, especially if lanes are pushed. If they don't show up at your t2/t3 then they are roshing.
-Right after taking a t2/t3 if lanes are very pushed in and they don't die and all successfully retreat
-If they cannot break high ground and disapear off map. They will all be sitting around your t3 outside of range, pushing side lanes, then suddenly they all leave. They are going to go rosh for the aegis high ground push.
They almost never smoke rosh as a team. You only have to beware of heroes who can solo rosh doing that, but pretty much the only ones who smoke rosh are lycan, ursa, ta and troll.
Other heroes will casually solo rosh when their team pushes. So if you see team pushing as 4 but that one guy is missing, he might be roshing. Those heroes are usually legion, sven, drow, pa, jug. For some reason these guys are very willing to solo rosh but won't smoke the pit cus they aren't considered rosh heroes.
There's a lot of other heroes who can solo rosh as well but never do in pubs like beast master, veno, enigma, chen maybe. I'm pretty sure TB can with a dominator as well.
1) are they capable of killing roshan without committing too much time or resources?
2) are the heroes necessary to do roshan missing from the map for an abnormal amount of time?
3) is their team gathered towards roshan? (this doesn't have to mean right beside it, if suddenly top lane is vacant and their entire team is in the dire secret shop/mid/bottom that's enough to warrant caution)
No enemies on map or enemy jungle is warded and Ursa, Nature Prophet, Wraith King etc. are missing.

I have a pretty good sence to see if they are rosh, example, only 1 hero shows up in lane and is usually near the rosh pit, the rest of the enemy is on rosh, if they are missing on all lanes for more than 20 sec they are smoking and going rosh.
common patterns
radiant push bot t1 and/or t2 into rosh
dire push bot t1 into rosh
dire core split push top, bait tp, tp rosh
radiant push top dire rosh
radiant wipes and push rax, dire core buybacks, radiant scatter, dire rosh
ta 12 min deso rosh
meepo 12 min aghs rosh
both teams missing from map = smoke => failed smoke into rosh
also killing one core near roshan area = instant rosh but everyone should already know that
most of the time you can just look at the roshan pit even with fog there are animations sometimes
i just go in to the pit and take aegis as ogre magi because i had it warded and smoke in sub 1k doesn't exist
Usually its pretty obvious. I'm still working on knowing this sooner as I will usually realize this like 15 seconds before they take aegis. However if u see everyone missing for a significant time and ur lanes r pushed ez read on rosh. The best way for u to take roshan without anyone knowing is do it around 4 min with Ursa. Its so early that at low MMR people don't even know it's possible. All u need is morbid mask.
Prophet and shadow shaman can also solo rosh. Almost every hero with a lot of summons can with medallion, but its risky and most of these heroes r also better at pushing or ganking
