To answer your question, Coaching is always good, especially when its free,
I have a friend who is like a thousand mmr above me, He helped me alot, tells me im dogshit, why im dogshit, how to be not dogshit
but overall, I definitely became better, still dogshit though
It really does work, but it only works under 2 factors:
1. That you listen to your coach, interac with him and actually do what youre asked to
2. You get enough coaching: from whoever ive coached it takes at least 3+ sessions 2-4 hrs long for them to get enpugh knowledge to move 500-1000 mmr up in a noticable short period.
The coach needs to get to know you, and you need to get to know the coach
Otherwise, if youre lookin for like 1 session without doimg any homework, well dont expect itll work.
Coaching is the same as tutoring, tutor is here to fix the issues you might not notice or help with those problems which you cant solve
BUT youre still going to have to do all your homework yourself

I am at the point now in dota where i don't realise the mistakes I do because I think I'm hotshit. (Probably how everyone else thinks too)
I would love someone to coach me or we can just talk about each others games or even solely ur games, that would be nice.
I am a 19 yr old from England who started playing Dota from june 2015.
The way I envision this right now is me and a few others just watching one of our games (could be any) and having a good time talking about their gameplay/builds/decisions. Just a learning experience for all of us I guess. be 3k or more really.
For many of us, we sometimes get people in our games who we think 'how the fuck did he get to my mmr' when really its because he sees the game in a slightly different way and has different strengths but is equally as strong in terms of winning games as your strengths and vision of the game.
For example, someone could be really good at communicating but have less skill than u in mechanics. And maybe someone is better at support than you are at carry.
Can't believe this turned to me giving a mini lesson/ heads-up.
