i always use voicechat to say in-game situations and if someone says they dont have speakers then fuck them
Chat wheel and voice chat is the way to go.
Typing is fun when you're dead, and the only time someone should type tbh. Unless a mute/deaf person is on the team, then type away.
Maybe because they had hard time nailing the right phrase on the wheel, due to sensitive mouse, or they're just too lazy to get used to it.
I used it all the time using default settings, and my only bound key is b for "Get Back!".
The default chatswheel is retarded
You need all the tactical phrases like rosh, dewards, group up, split push, go, back,
Nah, you just need
"Be right back!"
"On My Way!"
"Well played!"
"Get back!"
"Re-use courier"
"Missing"
"Thanks!"
"Affirmative"
Im planning to change "Get Back!", "Push", "Roshan" and "Thanks!" on my chatweel since you can certainly type b, p, rs and ty.
there's only a couple chat wheel commands that are actually useful for fast information pings
wut at least 1 guy uses the chat wheel in the games I play excluding myself
X ping and ! ping is all I need
Roshan ping the rs pit
Push tower ping the tower or draw a line
Because I am comfortable with the alt button i tend to ping a lot and became ping deaf
Current time is one of the most useful
I also use well played, ggwp
Affirmative is like a must for ppl like me(too lazy to type y)
Roshan is also useful for me
Split push is one of the funniest thing in game because i always get flamed when i use it
My bad is also useful and could be use to trigger someone
Pinging is enough for me
Plus I type faster than I hover my mouse and check all the random crap on the chat wheel that can be done by alt clicking or typing simple shits like "go" "b" "rs" "bb"
The chatwheel has helped me a lot, as typing takes time (aslo because my chatwheel is F5, so it's easy to reach). I have, Go, Relax you're doing fine, GGWP, Careful, Get Back, We need wards, GLHF, and Affirmative. Once you get used to their positions it really turns out to be more efficient despite saying that you can just type "G," "B," "RS," etc. That extra press on the enter key may cause you being initiated on by an enemy hero.
my chat wheel is "Push Now" "Affirmative" "Get Back" "GGWP" "Well Played" "My Bad" "Careful" " "Relax, you are doing fine"
I use it all the time except the "Relax" one because either i give "well played" for them or flame them. nothing in between
I tried making custom phrases, apparently you have to edit it yourself in your console but the only people who will see it are people who changed their consoles as well. Like ">Okay." becomes ">I fucked your mom." Otherwise it'll look the same and the only giggling will be you, and the rest of the team will think you are a retard.
Yes, there is possibility of abuse, but it would still be great thing to have, put aside F* MOM and some wierd insults for everyone, but something connected to gameplay, or just simple individual greeting, it wouldn't be really bad at all. Like custom bind.
my chat wheel
Nice - relax, you're doing fine - BRB - All enemy heroes is missing - thanks - out of mana - GGWP - Roshan
Lmao with this community do you think it's even remotely possible for people to respect its use. I myself when I started I had a phase where I wanted to be Russian because I had a Russian name and tried changing my chat wheel into the Russian equivalent and add some typical Russian insults. Found out that you had to change your store settings to the country for the default shit to change, and you can't change that unless you transact from the said country. Seeing as I was from SEA I gave up on the dream
Point tho, is that giving this much freedom to such a diverse community is like handing them the keys to Valve headquarters to do what they want unreigned

Beside the possibility most of people who currently use it may have "Good Game, Well played" occupying all the slots, why those people not use others phrases from it?.
I literally use chat wheel in every match since it was added into the game and I literally have seen only another ten players that used 2~3 different phrases from it in around 500~1000 matches.
Most Dota servers have people from different regions that have different native languages, chat wheel auto-translate around 80 phrases in all languages Dota is using, why not use it to communicate?.
Few people use voice chat and when they do 10% is for talk about tactics and 90% is trash talk, insults and complains about builds/plays.
Chat wheel isn't a new feature, it have FIVE damn years.
