hope someone here is an experienced PT: De Quervain's Tenosynovitis in General Discussion

I've had a pain in my right thumb since March this year and it has never went away until now. And according to a few Google searches, I might have De Quervain's Tenosynovitis.

How I understand this is that the tendons responsible for pulling my thumb back is constricted in a swollen tendon sheath, much like running a cable wire inside a small hose, resulting into limited hand movement and pain.

I suspect I developed this when I was trying to train my grip with an empty plastic bottle. Probably overtrained my thumb. Really stupid idea.

The pain at first was hell unbearable. Waking up to seemingly frozen-in-place hand in pain isn't pretty. Playing Dota became a pain in the ass, moving the mouse diagonally from upper-right to lower-left is hard, and even light labor becomes a chore for me.

Since I'm now well-over the supposed 2 month natural recovery time of the condition, my only options now are an injection or an operation involving making an incision in that "hose" to let the "cable" have more movement, but I also need to keep my hands strong for an upcoming project.

Anyone of you had this condition? And did you do some sort of exercise to help alleviate this pain post-2 months natural recovery? i just want to leave the operation option the absolute last that I take if possible.

Have you gotten a doctor's diagnosis to confirm this condition of yours? If not, I recommend you do so. Even if you do need to take the worst-case-scenario treatment, you should probably go put this in some medical treatment website, not some Dota 2 forums. We ain't doctors.

Yeah asking dota 2 players who are most likely kids without medical experience is bad

if the natural recovery would take 2 months and you still play dota during this time, excoect the time to go up to 2 years

Try stretch, move in different ways, search google for stretching techniques same way you searched for diagnosis. My opinion, don't go to operate or visit surgeon if it is not really serious and you tried everything, you will regret. Knife doesn't give second chances.

I posted here since the med forums i stumbled upon that had this discussion were at least a year old already and dead, plus I was hoping maybe someone who had gone through this might have done something differently

i actually have good faith that we have a number of professionals here in db, including those in the med field, and also some studying med(im looking at you apoop).

Also, anyone here who's had carpal tunnel syndrome? What is it like?

My right wrist had this weak feeling, noticed it when I tried to raise a jar of water and couldn't support it. Eh not so much pain so I took it easy and only raise medium weight things avoiding too much strain. Didn't felt that way after 2 weeks.

                Jacked

I prescribe jerking off session twice a day as therapy

                    ^what is jerking off??????

                    fx

I dont understand since im stupid. So what happen to the tendon? Have you tried using

                      Dog

this is how i understamd this: the tendon is constricted inside the tendon sheath, like running a cable wire inside a hose without enough clearance space or lubrication inside to allow any movement without any stress.

If I try to pull my thumb back with the muscles illustrated at the first post, I feel pain and the motion is limited.

So you're playing Tinker games despite the condition?

Maybe stop doing repetitive intense wrist/finger moving activities, his hands are starting to recover after doing so

@Into The Window of Soul yeah but instead of my usual wrist flick going TR to LL, I use my whole arm for that. Not the prettiest way of playing, half as effective.

Buy some massage oil that you feel hot inside after you apply (not surface-skin hot)

Gently push forward the place you feel pain with your tumb finger bone for about 100 times per day.

Avoiding doing after you finish your meal (1 hours rest)

Avoiding that part that you massage touch by water or anything cold before 1 and half hour

I pratice Muay Thai for 5 years, traning with Thai-Monk master and was on level on puching/kicking steel and tyres filled with concrete,so everytimes I have to cure myself, become professional at cure injuries in thai massage way lol

If its swollen you shouldve applied Ibux cra daily over the affected area, even just the tablets. In any case, you should see a doctor! Unfortunately i dont knoe about any medics in the dotabuff forums :/

I got about 8.5 years of medical experience 1 year civilian and 7.5 years in the military . I wouldn't be so hasty to get surgery done without seeing if it will heal first . You can take a anti inflammatory medicine like Motrin or naproxen . Typically with inflammation for the first several days of aggravating it you want to ice it to reduce inflammation also you are going to want to limit your use of the injured body part . Next once you have got it to calm down some you can apply heat to it to improve circulation in the area promoting more healing to occur . Hand injuries often take several months to heal especially since we tend to use them often not giving them enough rest to heal . After your injury has healed some and your pain is significantly lowered you can massage it and start some rehabilitation excersises for it . These are just general tips for musculoskeletal injuries .
