I do what you do, max nethertoxin first. It's so much dmg, poison spit is just for a little harassment. Idk why people max skin, maybe just to get tankier sooner? It does depend on your opponent though, sometimes max skin is really worth so they trade even on harassment.
But usually I go q,w,e,q then max w, q is second, e is last, taking ult of course so you end up like 3/4/1/1 at 10.
Nethertoxin is a very underrated skill and the bulk of viper's dmg, it's why he can hang with big time right clickers late game if he gets enough attack speed.
Viper skill build is different every game. He doesn't need to focus on maxing a certain skill
tbh i think u can almost any skill build on viper
the biggest reason people max skin first is because he becomes retardedly hard to gank, and in high mmr which is where most guides come from, thats what u do against a viper
maxing q is ok, if u want to kite better
maxing nethertoxin is also ok, tho i find that 2 points is often enough early game
idk viper is a rlly flexible hero, i feel like u can do a lot of different builds.

Yeah if you go 2/2/2 I don't notice a huge difference in maxing any other first after that. Items are a bigger choice.
Yeah I figured it was something like surviving ganks. Think ill stick with mine because most people won't gank down here in 2k, at least not until like ten minutes and by that point it's too late.
I had 3 points in corrosive and get 4 man ganked, but end up taking 3 with me (thanks to some of my team)
It makes u really fucking tanky
Q for lane dominance and early fighting, max first of you wanna gank early
W for better lasthitting and faster Farming
E if you are in a hard lane and vs alot of magic dmg, like zeus huskar, good support rotations
If not sure you can just go 2-2-2-1
Make Sure you only pick Viper with a strong carry and use your hero to enable him! Win not only yout lane, win all lanes by making space. Skills and items dont matter if you dont get anything done before 20min

So I play a lot of viper and I have my build. But when I'm looking at Dotabuff and other games I notice that most people max out corrosive skin first and the other build is to max his q first rather than my build which is to max nethertoxin first. Considering my winrate is 70% it seems to me that my build is not bad so I'm wondering why it's not done very often and why other builds are more popular.
