Does the 3k trench exist? - Trench status 4k in General Discussion
Peekaboo

Yo, so I've been around these forums for a long time. I have calibrated smurfs at 4.5k and reached my peak on one of them at 5.3k with maximum studying/triharding.

Due to the nature of far too many bong hits and enjoying too many drinks, this acc hit a record low of 3100 or so.
I came to the long coming conclusion of 'if i reach 2k i will quit dota', if i get back to 4k by the end of the month, i'll attempt the grind for 5k.

within 1 week i grinded 750+ mmr, and am currently sitting on an 11 winstreak (10 predicted XD).

Most of this was due to an attitude change and in general (higher skilled than my opponents)

While I can somewhat agree that the 'Trench' is real, I could honestly tell you that the only reason you might be stuck in a trench, is because you aren't more advanced than your enemies to make a difference.
Statistically, if you're +500 mmr over the bracket you're playing in, you should reach that +500 quite rapidly. Bigger the gap, the easier it is. If you're floating +/- 200mmr a week and not progressing, you need to change something in order to gain mmr.

I watched a replay of mine from the enemy teams perspective to see how much game impact i had and to feel what it's like playing against me, often i walked in vision as an initiator, did X and Y things, focus'd the wrong hero in a fight.
I learn't alot just from changing my perspective.

The biggest pieces of advice, From a player who has +/- 1500 mmr in a week, and is currently 1000 mmr under his peak. (i'll get back there)

    Tip's for gaining mmr.
    Number 1!
Be someone who you would like to play with!

this should go without saying, but if you're fun to play with more people will listen to you. Nobody enjoys a midas rushing support and a black map. Everybody enjoys a forcestaff and tones of vision. etc etc.
I can't remember the last time Flaming someone, or recieving flame has made me play better, how about you try something like this
'be careful man, that bristle is strong just get a stick and start stacking the small camp till we get lvl 2'

You'll find if you strip your ego back, communicate openly with your team (sometimes it doesn't work, but its the nature of dota) You'll win significantly more games.
'where is X ganking hero?, May i get a ward for mid, Y hero is missing be careful' Even just something as simple as 'Badluck or well played' instead of 'WTF and KS?!' can win you games.

    Tip Number 2.

    Fill what your team needs.

This may be 'hero picks', it may be 'item choices' it may be as simple as letting your support farm his boots etc.
IF you have the mindset of 'we're a team, lets work as a team' instead of 'F*** this guy, i'll ruin his game' You'll win significantly more games. Trust me, Open mindset will significantly help your winrate.
Especially communication 'Earth shaker is 300 gold from blink, let him farm bot then we smoke'

    Tip Number 3.

Never Give up, Especially in lower tiers.

I have had games where i litterally destroyed all my items, walked down lanes and fed 25 times and we still won the game because the enemy team just counter throws. For every game that you rage and throw, that is negative points.
10k-20k-30k + Gold leads, you name it, i don't care. If you put the effort in, one in every 5-10-100 of those games, you'll succeed, and that is +50 mmr (-25 for a loss, +25 for a win) This'll add up.

    Tip Number 4.
Identify the win condition / lose condition, AND vocalise it.
'Anti mage buys back' - if you kill AM you'll most likely win the game
'Tinker is thier only de push, lets smoke on the tinker and push t2'
'i have no buyback, i can't die right now'
Every game has a win condition/lose, Identify it and i can promise you, that you'll start winning more games
You can be 30k gold down and if you hit the correct initiation, you'll win more games.

    Tip Number 5.

Don't chase your losses, easier said than done, but if you feel yourself on a slipery slope, Queue un ranked or lobbies or anything else.
Play when you're in a good headspace.
