the best bet is to follow certain players and see their match history, if you go back in time to refer to it.
start by using Dota2protracker.
then move to opendota,stratz and dotabuff
another way, I would recommend is to find a top 500 player, find their most played hero you want to learn, and see the item progression through time.
you can check situational builds against certain heroes, eg: naga vs timbersaw. or tb vs pl.
but I don't know any platform that can download old replays, if you know any recommend me

Lets say I want to find out how team used to pick dk 3 without any specific patch or time in mind. Is there any website or dota function that lets me filter through maybe dpc, major and ti games like that?
