Because the old system was totally outdated.
It was based around the time when 5k was "pro" level dota.
For average mmr of the game, the distribution was like this,
Normal -> 0 to 3.2k
High -> 3.2k to 3.8k
Very High -> 3.8k+

I find it amusing in the past that dotabuff put ur matches in high very high bracket, back in the day I wish that my bracket is high or very high, so that my mmr is higher than what it is, but now it changed to (archon 1, legend1 etc) and dotabuff still dont update their record, i dont find archon legend in dotabuff player record
