well people like iommi, keith richards, paul mccartney are reaching their 70s and they can still play to some degree, the big limiter is actually the type of music you make. if you make death metal, you are more likely to not be able to play it sooner compared to a guy who makes soft rock music
not all metal, just the very fast genres. and its mostly for drummers. most people wouldnt be able to play 80% of slayer songs on drums in their 20s because its just fucking hard. even if you can play it, you wont be able to sustain the same performance for 90 mins
