You can't really know if ure going to need a new card or not, for all we know a "new crysis" could be around the door, then suddenly u'd need better GPU to play it. As it is now tho, you could probably play all games on ultra 1440P on a GTX 1060 OC / RX 580 OC. So there is that, but if you invest in a GTX 1080 TI and the trend continues, then you could probably settle with a GTX 1080 ti for the next 5 years on 1440p.
